District Cooling Plant – Qiddiya Project Riyadh
Steel Structure Fabrication and Erection – Progress Update
The latest site activities at the District Cooling Plant – Qiddiya Project highlight significant advancements in the steel erection stage, where heavy-duty cranes, scissor lifts, and boom lifts are in full operation. Each image showcases different aspects of this milestone phase:
Heavy Lifting Operations
Mobile cranes were deployed to hoist and align primary steel beams across the reinforced concrete columns. This step ensures the structural skeleton takes shape with accuracy, balance, and safety. The scale of lifting demonstrates our team’s capacity to handle large and complex steel components within tight timelines.
High-Access Welding and Bolt Installation
Specialized teams equipped with scissor lifts are shown performing welding, bolting, and alignment works at elevated positions. Every connection is inspected for compliance with design standards, ensuring load-bearing capacity and long-term stability.
Worker Safety and Precision
- The photos highlight strict adherence to safety protocols:
- Use of harnesses and fall protection systems.
- Elevated work platforms for secure positioning.
- High-visibility PPE and continuous supervision.
This demonstrates EPF’s zero-compromise safety culture, ensuring both efficiency and protection of workforce at heights.
Scissor Lift and Boom Lift Utilization
The images capture extensive use of hydraulic lifts for safe access to elevated beams. These platforms allow welders and riggers to operate with precision, significantly reducing risk compared to conventional scaffolding.
Structural Formation
With multiple steel beams now in position, the skeleton of the District Cooling Plant is becoming visible. This framework will support upcoming mechanical and electrical systems, including thermal tanks, chillers, and switchgear areas.
Advancing Through Structural, MEP, and Infrastructure Milestones
With each phase, our team moves closer to completing a Massive Raft Pouring state-of-the-art facility, setting new benchmarks in engineering, construction, and digital innovation.
Following the completion of the main structural works of Pouring 1900 Meter Cubic Concrete , our attention shifted to Structural Work of Columns, Slab, Stairs and architectural finishes—installing concrete masonry units and bricks, meticulous plastering, painting, ceilings, tile work, and epoxy flooring to elevate both functionality and aesthetics. Significant progress was achieved in MEP and specialized areas, including thermal energy tanks, air-cooled chiller spaces, RMU, and switchgear rooms—crucial for advanced operations. We also developed essential infrastructure such as asphalt roads, curbstone walkways, and robust drainage systems to ensure reliability and accessibility. At every stage, EPF harnessed advanced BIM, digital modeling, and cutting-edge construction technologies, uniting our expert engineers to deliver excellence across all disciplines. As the project evolves, each milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and the vision for Qiddiya Project , and we look forward to soon unveiling this landmark achievement.
Steel Structure Fabrication and Erection: Advancing to New Heights
With the concrete foundations in place, our focus shifted to the next pivotal stage—steel structure fabrication and erection. Our teams mobilized expert welders, riggers, and engineers to assemble and position each steel beam and column with exceptional precision. Every element was meticulously fabricated and installed, ensuring structural integrity and alignment with project specifications.
Safety and quality remained at the forefront throughout this phase. Strict protocols were followed to guarantee a safe work environment, and thorough inspections ensured that all steel components met the highest industry standards. This milestone marks significant progress in the District Cooling Plant project, setting the framework for the facility’s future development and operational excellence.
Foundation and Blinding Concrete Work, Leveling & Compaction
With the groundwork completed, our team advanced to the pivotal phase of foundation and blinding concrete work at the District Cooling Plant – Qiddiya Project. This process began with precise site leveling and rigorous soil compaction, establishing a stable, uniform base for all upcoming structural elements. Every step was carefully monitored to ensure optimal ground conditions and long-term durability.
Blinding concrete was then expertly poured across the leveled and compacted surface, providing a clean, even platform that enhances both the quality and accuracy of subsequent foundation works. This critical layer protects the structural rebar, improves adhesion, and acts as a barrier against moisture.
Following blinding, we proceeded with the installation of reinforced concrete foundations, forming the solid backbone of the plant, storage tanks, chiller areas, RMU rooms, and switchgear facilities. Every detail—from compaction to concrete curing—was executed with strict adherence to engineering standards, guaranteeing strength, safety, and resilience for Qiddiya’s future infrastructure.
Excavation and Groundwork
With precision engineering, the excavation and groundwork phase brought significant transformation to the Qiddiya site. Our team mobilized advanced machinery and expert operators to begin large-scale earthworks, carefully removing and relocating soil to match detailed design specifications. Every action was executed with accuracy—shaping the landscape to accommodate structural foundations and future utility corridors.
Once the target depths and profiles were achieved, the focus shifted to backfilling and compaction. Using high-quality materials and strict quality control procedures, we built a stable and durable base to support all upcoming structures. This critical groundwork not only ensures long-term integrity for the facility but also paves the way for seamless progress in the next phases of construction.
The Vision Begins
It all started with a blank canvas—a vast stretch of untouched ground at Qiddiya, destined to become a hub of innovation and world-class infrastructure. At EPF, our story began with a commitment to transform potential into reality. Backed by a proven track record and a reputation for excellence, we set out to lay the foundation for the future of this landmark project.
Site Preparation and Mobilization
With the vision in place, our team launched the critical first phase: detailed planning, land surveying, and strategic mobilization of resources. We established site offices, access roads, and safety zones—ensuring that every step was executed with precision and care. These early preparations set the stage for seamless progress and a safe, efficient construction environment.
