Red Sea Saudi Arabia, Power Generators - Project

By EPF Commercial
EPF Commercial delivered and commissioned a temporary power plant to support construction and early operations at the Red Sea Project, meeting Red Sea Global’s safety and sustainability standards.

Equipment (Key Specs)

  • JD-250 (250 kVA) — John Deere engine, Leroy-Somer alternator, sound-attenuated, prime-rated.
  • DG-200 (3× 200 kVA) — Heavy-duty 6-cyl engines, Leroy-Somer alternators, parallel/synchronization ready.
  • C-550 (550 kVA) — High-capacity unit for peak/critical loads, PowerCommand/DSE controls, Stamford/Leroy-Somer class alternators.
  • Bunded bases, auto safety shutdowns, ATS integration, remote monitoring.

What We Did (Process)

  • Logistics & Pads: Delivery, crane off-loading, alignment on reinforced concrete with anti-vibration mounts.
  • Cabling & Fuel: LV feeders to MDB/ATS, control wiring for auto-start/sync; external tanks, spill-safe fuel lines.
  • Pre-Start & Testing: Fluids/filters, insulation/torque checks, phase rotation; no-load checks, stepped load-bank tests, parallel run.
  • Commissioning: ATS simulation, protections verification, burn-in run, handover & operator training.

Challenges & Mitigation

  • Remote, sandy, coastal site: staged spares, corrosion-resistant hardware, upgraded filtration.
  • Heat & dust: dawn/dusk heavy lifts, enhanced cooling, tighter PM schedule.
  • Multi-contractor interface: locked lift windows, joint energization plans, daily coordination.

Safety Procedures

  • Mandatory PPE, daily toolbox talks, LOTO for electrical works.
  • Certified lifting gear, cordoned test zones, fire & spill kits on standby.
  • Documented inspections and sign-offs at every stage.

Outcomes

  • 1.4 MVA reliable prime power for camps, site utilities, cranes, and early facilities.
  • Redundant configuration (3×DG-200) for uptime and maintainability.
  • Zero-incident installation; schedule and quality targets met.

Sustainability & Innovation

  • Right-sized, efficient gensets in low-noise canopies; bunded containment.
  • Smart controls for load-based auto-start/stop and remote monitoring to reduce fuel burn.
  • Designed as a bridge to future solar/battery microgrid—seamless ATS integration for backup role later.
